What is CMMC?

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is a cybersecurity assessment model and certification program of the Department of Defense to properly secure the defense supply chain or Defense Industrial Base. Initiated by Charleston native, Katie Arrington, the CMMC initiative is a phased approach to create good IT hygiene of the entire Industrial Base by a target year of roughly 2025.

Based on the NIST 800-171 standard, there are now 3 levels of CMMC 2.0:

Level 1: 17 Practices aligned with NIST SP 800-171

Level 3: 110 Practices aligned with NIST SP 800-171

Level 5: 110+ Practices aligned with NIST SP 800-172
